SUPER SALUKI EVENT of the DAY! “Leaders and Leadership” 400PM, Guyon Auditorium, Morris Library
Two professors, with very different research practices, discuss the same topic: Leaders and Leadership. The communities they work in are also distinctly different: the technical fields and the local minority communities.
Followership, Teamship, Leadership: Your journey to becoming a leader In this engaging and interactive presentation, Dr. DeRuntz leads the audience through the stages of personal development that we all must pass through on our journey to become leaders. You will be able to discover for yourself the stage you are presently in and the next steps necessary to reach the next level in your life.
Bruce DeRuntz, PhD, is a Professor in the College of Engineering and Director of SIUC’s award winning Engineering Leadership Development Program. The program has the distinction of having a 96 percent pre-graduation career placement. He brings 10 years of industrial and 19 years of teaching experience to his classes on project management and leadership in the CoE, and advanced leadership in the MBA program. He consults with universities and companies on their leadership development of human resources for six sigma and project management teams. He is the former Editor of the ASQ’s Quality Management Forum and a Fellow with the American Society for Quality. http://ldp.rso.siuc.edu/
Angela J. Aguayo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cinema and Photograhy. She is a media maker/scholar whose practice reflects an interdisciplinary focus on documentary production, media studies, rhetoric, critical and cultural studies. Her scholarship investigates the possibilities for the documentary impulse to engage the process of social change. She is the author of scholarly essays in such journals as Visual Communication Quarterly and Journal of Documentary Studies. Her second book, Documentary and Social Change: An Investigation of Participatory Media Culture(s) is under contract with Oxford University Press. Angela is also an award-winning writer, director and producer of several documentary shorts utilized in community engagement campaigns, screened at various festivals, museums and art spaces around the world. She is currently working on her first feature length documentary, The Ritual.

Now in its eleventh year, Outside the Box builds on its legacy as an exceptional annual new music festival and concert series. Guest composers and performers join with Southern Illinois’ finest musicians and composers to create a weeklong atmosphere of exciting, engaging, contemporary concert music. All events are free and open to the public.
